A LITTLE ABOUT SHADOW PEOPLE
The strong, silent type
Shadow People are handmade timber figures with a quiet presence of their own. No faces. No fixed story. Just simple forms that settle into a space and somehow make it feel different.
Watchful, companionable, solitary, or simply there. What they mean is entirely up to you.

The Originals
The ones that started it all. Reclaimed tōtara battens in natural, black or bronze finishes.

NO WATERING.
NO SMALL TALK.
Low-maintenance company, really.
BEHIND THE PEOPLE
Meet Clare.
Originally from Taranaki, Clare Rose now makes Shadow People from her home workshop in Hawke’s Bay, surrounded by her animals and garden.
What began as an experiment with reclaimed tōtara and structural steel became a collection after her family fell for the very first figures. The work remains simple, intuitive and guided by the character of each piece of timber.
SOMETHING WITH A PAST
No two are
quite the same.
Before they became Shadow People, these pieces of tōtara had another life. Weathered surfaces, grain, knots and little imperfections are all part of the story.
Clare shapes the reclaimed timber by hand, pairing it with structural steel to give each figure its own stance and character.
Watchful. Companionable. Solitary. Or simply there.
Some stand together. Some stand alone. With no faces or defining details, each one leaves room for you to see something different.
